My English travel.

In the year 2009 I went to the Faculty of Social Science for the obligatory English test. I didn`t know what to do when I came to the classroom and the people of the computing classroom makes me sit in front of a screen and start to answered the English test of the University of Chile. I was very quiet and relax because I knew some things about English language but suddenly the listening test was wrong: I couldn’t listen anything!!! , the headphones were bad or maybe my computer was crazy or just was a thing of destiny. This fact was the reason that made me take the English subject at the University. When this terrible situation happened the assistant of the computing classroom said to me: “doesn`t matter that you begins the English class at level one or two, always you can learn more and this situation can be useful for you, you can practice English again” but I didn`t believe in his words and later I realized that my travel began here.
Some weeks later I get the new: I was in level 2. That means that I have to take the English subject at least 3 semesters of the academic years. I was very frustrated because I had the feeling that I was losing my time, because I knew some things about the language and I could start the subject in level 3 or 4. However when I started to going the first classes I realized that I didn`t remember important things about the language, so the words of the computing assistant came to my head. The English language only can be learning if you practice a lot. Despite of the time that I wasted going to classes or the tire that I felt the most of the days I learned more things that I couldn’t imagine. We know about our language because we speak every day in the same code but anyone of the people in the world born with a switch or with a translator inside his bodies. So the language isn’t a natural thing it’s a cultural thing. We use a language in our simple life to communicate with others and when we are little babies we started to know the world using a few words. After all learning a language it is a process that never star to happen. When I understand this idea my experience about English class at the university became better, my ears, my eyes were more available than ever.

Above all, this travel was a interesting experience , doesn`t means that I have no faith in my skills but sometimes we believe that we know many things and life mistake can demonstrated that learning it is a process that never stop, especially when we talk about English. In Chile we practice and learn every day Spanish so we never forget the entire language, also we always learn new words. But we can practice English only in our schools or universities and its logical that we forget verbs or adjectives. Finally I understand that my travel by English language has no ending. However I still remember when it began, when the nice assistant computing said to me that English practice it is a experience that during the whole life.

In school, people learn many things but also learn how to be careful with the enviroment. We start in pre-kinder to take our trash and put in a dumping place. Maybe this is the first environmentally friendly practice. So in the school and college we learn about our environment and the word "Recycling" its well-known in the classroom. However in our homes it's completely different we forget about spending energy. And we use the light and water and forget about the environment. Many people never turn the Tv off , and others never turn off completely the tap of the dishwasher. In my case I forget about these things also, but I try to remember about the World and try to keep the level contamination low. I use biodegradable products. And in my home we have a very important rcycling habit: we keep the tetrapack box, like the milk and juice box, and put in a special conteiner in the supermarket.

Other focus of contamination its the pollution caused by cars and buses. This is a very corcern problem. When I went to a body exposicition they show me a lung contaminaited with smoke cigarrete and other lung of person who lived near to the parking mall. AND both lung were very black and dirty,the lungs were equal. So I Start to use my bike, but in bad day a thief stoled my bike. Despite of that I try to use my legs and I don't know how to drive a car. Sometimes I walk about 40 minutes, I walk since avenida la florida until jardin alto .

I never have suportted an orgnization, because I am a lazy person. And because I suppose that I disappointed of any organizations. However a thign that I would like to do it's sort out or put in order the garbage and help to the process of recycling.
About my carbon footprint I must to say that sometimes I forget about the environment. And I don't have excuse. :( But I try to thing in cars pollution and factories so I try to walk or take the public transport.

I thing that Chile is not a cleaning country. We are a weird society with bad habits, We only start to feel corncen when something big happens. I thing that We need now a better education!
Only this can help us to improve our habits in any issues. Also I think that CHile is a unequal country, if you go to la Dehesa the places are clear but if you go to the periphery of the city you see the pile garbage.

high school education

My high school education was very normal and regular. I cannot say that my school is very good and I learned many things, but it wasn´t so bad. Especially because I had a really good philosophy teacher also I had sicology with the same teacher. In other subjects like math and language: the school only taught me about the PSU. And that fact was a very important concern for me. Because in the first year of university I had redaction problem and reading comprehension. However I learned fast and My homeworks and essays became better every day.

My school was very little, we had a small field to play futball or anything. There was only one grade for year. So we didn´t have many technology or infrastructure. We had a place called " sala multiuso" In that place we had meetings about anything. This room has TV, Dvd, Powerpoint, anything. Like an improvaised auditorium.

The level of my high school education affect in my university life. However when I was in third grade high school I realized and started a preuniversity education in the Feuc ( the student center of Universidad Catolica) and get us to diversity , different kind of people, and a world or enviroment more open and very different from high school. So I can say that the high school eduction level or the enviroment inside this little school didn´t affect me so much, like others classmate for example. But I would like that teachers and the principal have done better the redaction areas or reading comprehesion we need to generate deep thinking. NOT everything is PSU.
If We wants to improve the educational system We need to make estructural changes. A better educational system not only means better distribution of money also means that Chilean state has to make responsable about his citizens. And, for example, Municipal Schools has to be state school.

In general We are responsable for our education and our goals. But when you have very few alternatives to be educated despite of your effort its to much difficult to be "someone" in this society eduction is like miracle: society makes goals for people but no for all people.

Nobel prize : medicine

Physical Anthropology is unknown for many people, rather Anthropology is unknown in general. We don know the implications about biological social and cultural terms in opur society. One of the most problems or items studied in Anthropology is the conception of life and reproduction. Because is a basic feauture in all humans.

So the vitro fertilisation, its a really big medicall advance with Anthropological consequences not only for physical Anthropology also for social . Since Louise Brown created the first test tube baby. Robert Edwards also develop the IVf technique received the 10m Swedish-kronor prize in an announcement today by the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.

Edwards was born in 1925 in Manchester and,studied biology at the University of Wales in Bangor and at Edinburgh University. He studied the development of emrbryeos in mice in 1955 and He was a profesor on Cambridege

The main consequence of IVF is the posibility for many couples have children and it tooks two decades of basuc scientific study of the life cycle of human eggs before Edwards were able to successfully fertilise them outside the human body in 1969

As Edward says "The most important thing in life is having a child," the antrhopologist impact is very clear if we think about life conception as a esencial human characteristic..

Lesley and John Brown ( the couple of the first paragraph) had come to Edwards and Steptoe at Bourn Hall Clinic in the late 1970s, after nine years of failed attempts to have a child. Edwards and Steptoe carried out the IVF technique on one of Mrs Brown's eggs and then re-implanted it after it had become an embryo consisting of eight cells. Louise was born by caesarean section after a full-term pregnancy.

This monumental advance has advanced for three decades for example: a single sperm can now be injected directly into an egg and the extraction of eggs from ovaries has been improved so that it causes less trauma. And in these days we give the nobel prize to the man that made it possible

Garden State.

My favourite movie is Garden state. THis movie is written and directed by Zach Braff also He is the leading actor. I didn´t know him before this movie but I really liked his performance in this movie I believe in every words and every expression that he says in the movie. He is also the leading actor in another series called "Scrubs". The character in Garden State is called Andrew Largeman. He is a waiter in a Chenesse restorant and his life its very monotonous and boring. He can not feel any feeling or emocion because He has been taking litio about 20 years. The other leading actor, Natalie Portman, play the role of a town girl called Sam. The movie is about the trip that has to make Andrew becuase the death of his mother. He has to return to your childhood city and unexpected things start to happen, remember: Andrew has no feelings because of 20 years of litio. This interesting story takes place in a tipycal small town in New Jersey a completely different place from a big city. Adrew goes to the funeral of his mother so He stay in his old home with his father. In general the movie show us different places from this small city.

I really love this movie: the main reason is that shows what I really believe about the meanings of live and ways to spend our time in life. Its not only whath we think about us also its what we do. And how we fell our actions. So there is a particular escene in this movie, when Andrew goes to a party in his firend´s house and take drugs people start to play arround him but Andrew still quite and the camera show him all the time: He is very high but He can not move. I like this part because of the soundtrack, the song called "waiting line" also its my fouvorite song.

Its my fovourite movie for many reasons, for the soundtrack, the actors and the argument. I think its perfect I didn´t change anything. I hope that you see it.

Visiting SANTIAGO

If you come to Santiago you should visit diferents places of the city. There is no only the mains streest like "Alameda" There ir also streets and neighborhood around. Because Santiago city its very different depending of the place: there is many economic diferents that you can pay atention if not only goes to the main neighborhood like Santiago centro. You can visit places like "santa lucia" hill or " san cristobal" how has a virgin., also you can visit historical places like "Barrriob Yungay"or "La moneda" . If you come to santiago you can konw about the Latin american people, you should go to the parties in Bellavista neighborhood, you can know about history if you come to the museums. But, also, you shoud visit the subway, one of the world's cleanest subways!!!!!

Ill give you five places that you never forget:
-Parties Neighborhood: Neighborhood Lastearras or Bellavista: located in Santiago Centro near to he station subway called Bellas artes, its a really quite neigborhood despite of the places and all the bars that you can have a really good time. if you ask me I choose this neihgborhoods because there are not expensive and the landscape its beatiful, there´s many old houses and its a really cool enviroment. I suggest you that visit the bar with blue beer!
- Mercado central: located in Estación central, the Mercado its a Historical place. You can eat a fried fish with salads is exquisite!!!! The mercado Central and the streets around can give you and Idea of the culture and the people of Santiago. I recomend to you this place because it show the esencial personality of Santiago
-"Santa Lucia" hill: as introduction here Santiago was founded by Pedro de Valdivia. Located in the station subway with the same name. IT is a beautiful place with a lot of wonderful gardens and every day at the 12 o´clock there is a gunshot. I chose this place because the history surrounding it and beacues the beatiful gardens.
-The subway: Like I said before the sabway of Santiago is one of the world's cleanest subways, but also you can know the differents neighborhoods and the diversity of its people. In santiago there is an impressive diversity that you can Know if you take a travel in the subway that its the reason because I recommend this place.
-La moneda: Government House a really Historical place, but before that was a Government house was the factory of coins. Located in the satation subway with the same name. I recommend this place because the history that surrounding it, La moneda has the joys and sorrows of Chile.

Fakes Hero of the earthquake

The intendent of Concepción gave herself an honor prize because in Concepción there was a ceremony. Where the minister of work gave to the public workers condecorations because of the earthquake a seaquake work and the public workers who recived the tribute were Van Rysselberghe ( the intendent) and the mayor of Hualpén. How ever this mayor was the person that made the ceremony. But it isn´t the most shoking at all ! : "the Van Rysselberghe " says to the audience in the cermony that the erthquake an the seaquake was a " blessing of god a godsend "because the people that lives in Concepción was in decadence about 40 years ago. And the region needs to be more stronger and what happened in the begginig of the year gave to the people the strain to keep the city alive. It seems that the erathquake and seaquak was a "godsend" only for Concepción and Van Rysselberghe doesn´t think in the other cities or towns that maeby doesn´t need and earthquake even the City of Concepción because who can think that an earthquake that includes a seaquake can be a "blessing of god" ? despite of that Van Rysselberghe and the mayor of Hualpén seems doesn´t matters all the people that even can´t sleep or they get up around 3 am.

I think that if ours leaders or peoples leaders says thant kind of things we are really lost!

First: because the Church and the State separated to many years ago. Second: We all know the reasons about the problems in regions.Third: in anywere a tragic moment can be a "blessing of god" and you know any part of the speach of the intendent is coherent . But, what can we wait from a person that give an honor prize, a hero condecoration, to himself?

I would like to see news that talking about this things . Not abou thief and safety and economics news that says that the country is "well" . And also the media has to learn about " to get wet his ass" and take th responsability that inform is also give a publc opinion.

London...

I would like to visit London. I know that is not a really wonderful and exciting place. But many years ago a family friend ( like an uncle for me) left home and went to London She wants Have a Magister degree. So when she London. So I didn’t see her in many years. But she always says to me that I have the “open doors” of her home. And also told me that if I want, we can go around and see the world. I would like to visit all the countries near to London. I don’t know many things about London like places or even its culture only that they have the big ben and an impressive museum of wax called museum of Madame Toussauds. But I have a really open mind. So when I go I would like to visit all the places that I can and eat all that I can too.
Also I have a dream to. I really want to study in any other country. And London seems to be a nice place for learning English despite that I know that is to expensive the cost of living. But , You know if I try maybe I can just like my uncle.

starting the year

The last semester I had a nice begining because I took wonderful holidays with my friends. I was very happy to start the year. And the most important thing I get back with my boyfriend after 3 years only because we saw in Bolivia ( the place of my holidys) by chance. Also during the year I feel ver stressful because the University but I learned to much even I became assistant profesor.

I studied a lot and I didn´t to much other activities. But I must to say that despite of the stressful year University I went To a lot of party and I try to keep the relation ship with my boyfriend. We made a lot of activities together like go to the cinema, cook Sushi, etc.

Despite of the pressure of many things like family and University I dind´t had to face many challenges: Only try to keep the grades and try to make all the homeworks in the best way and organize my time with my family my friends and my boyfriend . But you never made all the stuff like you one, only we can try.

2010 blog

the blogging experience!

In general I don´t like to be more than hour in a classroom , I esaily get bored. Also when a teacher talk to much about the same item or idea I don’t pay atention because if the idea is not interesting I get borred too. So I can say that I enjoy the experience of having a blog for the English class, because I prefer work in the computer that work in the classroom. Also the English Class its too late at 4 pm until 7:30pm and after a hard day of classes and homeworks I can’t pay too much atention to any class So, make a blog i’ts more funny and relaxing that normal classes. For me the only problem is the schedule, we go to our homes at 7:30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the means of transport are not the best.
However, in general I feel like a really learn how to write in English maby its no so productive because its only a blog and for my career I need to learn about specific vocabulary , like the pappers about Archeologist or social Antrophologist. But despite that, learn using the blog it help´s me with my vocabulary in general, But specially I STARTED TO THINK IN ENGLISH and not translate words from spanish.
I think that Internet and television and all kinds of visual means are a very usefull for learning because our society its more visual than auditive: We always watch Tv or We have internet in our computers but We don’t listen to much radio, for example. In the case of the blog I think that the most adventages of using this mean for learning is the visual and technological way that obiously its more funny that books for example.
Also using a Blog has disadvantages for example if you have to writte about your family or about your life the people not always is kind and serious , and that kind of informantion is became public when you use a blog. An other disadventages its that you can’t learn about specific vocabulary about the career.

World cup!

I don´t have many memories of the previous World Cup because i was so young and Chile not always classified. But in this year Chile has the opportunity to play. After the all problems of this country in the sport area, the only hope for Chile in this, its the World Cup , so I think that World cup its an important event for show the world our country as something more not only like the last place of the World. So Me and my friends decided watch the match between Chile and Suiza tomorrow at 7:30 am. First we are going to gather in MAriela ´s House and we are gooing to make some tacos and Shot of tequila, i would be wonderful night! we want to wait the macth all night long!

Im so exating about the soccer game that i expect that Chile win the match, and classified to next round, my boyfriend told to me that the most important strategy of Chile its the way that the team play together, playing like a real united group, complement each other. And i think that He is rigth because that was Bielsa want to do, Show a group strategy. So I believe that Chile will win tomorrow not for a few goals. maeby 3 or 2.

I think that Chile is always considerated like a country of the third world, despite of the development in relation to Latinoamerica ( like think the first world countires) so is really important to Chile shows to the countries that despite, to the catastrophe like the earquake or the bad administration of the resources and social problem like education: Chilean players can be good, even that they were educated in this third world country.

my favourite frozen moment (L)

I have many favorite photos, so i decided to choose one photo with a special person... my cousin

we spent together a difficult moment in the summer , and I supported her and she sopported me.

and we grew up together in this summer... so I will choose one special moment: that day we laugh too much and we felt happy to be in next to each other, maybe in one the most difficult moment, and I always remenber that in my heart. Other thing special about this picture is that I fixed, I take different photos and copied in an other image ( in a traditional negative of the photos) using photoshop. in the left side of the picture are two photos with a face of the sun , that represents my and my cousin smiling, then in the rigth side of the picture there is a sequence about our faces in diferrent moments , that shows differents feelings, but all relacionated with our love between cousins. all the pictures was taken by me with my cellphone, but I had to use the timer of the camera cell, me and me cousin had to srtike a funny pose until the camera take the photo and we had to change quickly our faces and strike another pose. I really like this photo because its about love and support , but not in a traditional way, more lika a natural feeling, like a conection between members of a special family.

I think that this kind of photos are important because you can have many friends and boyfriends , but family you can only have one, and its very nice freeze moments that maybe to can only live once.

salta la " linda" argentina

i have too many fauvorite trips , but i decided chose a trip with my family of Calama.

In the year 2007 i went to Salta, Argentina,with my family that lives in Calama,also i went with my mother my father and my little sister. This trip was very special , Salta is one of the most beautiful cities of Argentina, for that reason his name is Salta " la linda" , has many atractions like museums, parks, and restorants, etc. I love Salta because of its people and the history of its streets , but the most important i love Salta because the food, i went to many restorants and i eat the best food of my life, and my favourite dish was "bife chorizo " and pastas. How ever i only stayed 3 days , beacause we have problems in border : there was a terrible seasonal and we have to sleep in the mountains in side the car. then we arrived, we went to a beatiful restorant and since that moment i coudn´t stop to eat ... then my ant show us the city, and in the night we went to the" patio balcarce" a place were there a many pubs and folk " peñas" also a places that you can dance and listening music, but the most amazing of " patio balcarce" was that the party also is in the street but not in a chilean way , like drunk people in the street, its like a quite and order party but really fun, for example you can see musicians playing folk or rock. Then in the second day i eat to much again and in the next morning we left. i was very sad beacuse Salta became my fouvarite place , but i really need stop to eat, if i not , today i will be a really fat woman

Gotan Project

My favourite group is Gotan Project , they play electronic tango, a new kind of music that came from a diferent way to make traditional music, in simple words electronic tango is a mix between classsical Tango and electronic sounds. Gotan project usually keeps the classical 2X4 rhythm of the tango but mixed with electronic sounds, also they often mixed instruments like "bandoneon", the tradicional instrument of tango and Argentinian folk in general.

Gotan project begins in Paris when the DJ Philippe Cohen Solal, Christoph H. Müller y Eduardo Makaroff started to mix jazz, electronic music and Tango, the last member of the band ,Eduardo it´s the argentinian musician that play bandoneon and guitar. In the year 2000 they made his first Hit : "Vuelvo al sur" then became important in the escenary of electronic Tango , "La revancha del tango" was the second album in the history of Gotan Project, that sold a million copies.

Also Gotan Project has an interesting name: the word Gotan it is Tango but in reverse, that kind of name came from "lunfardo" an interesting way to write words in Argentinian popular culture.

I like Gotan project because i dance Tango and i had the oportunity to heard electronic tango and i think that`s a very nice mix between tradicional music and new kind of music like electronic. also it feels very nice dance the soft mix of jazz, electronic and tango; it is a perfect combination.

mi lovely celphone

A mobile phone is an electronic device used for mobile telecommunications over a cellular network of base stations known as cell sites. I have my first cellphone when i was in sixth grade, my ant gave me a beautiful cellphone i used a long time , for example when i was a teenager i called my parents when i went to a parties. but in a bad day my mom wet my mobile, and i have to wait until grow up for a new cellphone. Today i use mi cel in order to be comunicated with my friends, my boyfriends , and my parents, everyday i use my celphone because i like to be in permanent contact with the people that i care and that i love, for example i always miss my uncles that who living in Calama, and usually send sms using my cell.

i like my cellphone because its to easy be comunicated with a person that i care or for situassions like homeworks, parties, gatherings you can call using a mobile and say " im late" an people dosn´t have to be worried about you.also i like my cell for another functions like the camera that includes all modern mobilephones.

life in general its more easy when you have a better comunication between people, but if we don´t have a celphone i suposse that we get used , because the celphone has not always existed.

mmmMMmmmMMMmm Sushi!

In the 1960s, Los Angeles, sushi chefs from Japan came to The united States and made popular this typical dish from Japan . Mashita Ichiro, of the Tokyo Kaikan restorant in Los Angeles invented a new roll of sushi called California Rolls, because Americans didn`t like raw fish, a particular ingredient of the tradiconal sushi, so Mashita created a sushi whit crab, avocado, and cucumbers.How ever the ingredients of the actually california rolls are diferents, for example American sushi chefs have created many variations with unique names such as Spider Roll, Philadelphia Roll, and Rainbow roll.

The california rolls that i like is the Philadelphia Roll, for make this unique dish you need:

• race
  
• vinegar
• salt
• sugar
• avocado
• raw fish like salmon
• algae Nori
• philadelphia cheese

then you have all this ingredients you can start make the sushi, First you have to make the rice: put it in a bowl, wash the rice until the water becomes transparent. then you have drain the rice , after that , cook the rice whit 900 cc of water. when this over, yo have to add salt, vinager and sugar to the rice and wait for the absortion of the condiments.

After the preparation of the rice , cut the avocado and the raw fish in stripes, take the Nori algae and put in a bamboo mat, then strech the rice all over the Nori, put the stripes of avocado and fish and roll whit the mat.

I really love this dish because i think its very healthy and its a very concentred flavour, and i love this kind of food. Also its the fovurite food of mi boyfriend , and always cook this lovely dish.

Sonia Montecinos

Sonia Montecinos its one of the most important anthropologist In Chile, she was born in 1954, She studied In the University of Chile, until 1980, lately she became a techar of this university, she is an expert in the anthropology of gender, also is the foundress of interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies , in the same university , and couriosly her husband its another relevant anthropologist: Rolf Forester. She has publicated many books and articles like “Mitos de Chile. Diccionario de seres magias y encantos”, this publication was awarded a prize Altazor.
Today Sonia its in the gender department, and she continues searching about gender and also she is interested in food cultures, making anthropology of the kitchen , a new searching area.
I´d really like her , because if we take a moment to think, there is a few group of woman in the history of Anthropologist, there is a only a few names like Margaret Mead , in this way i think that she opened doors in a field that only men are considerated like important names, i don`t know very well what is the reason for that situation, but i can tell that Sonia became an interest and very important anthropologist in Chile and in the field in general. So maeby she has the answered of why the men are more considered in this career even if it is a matters of important names.

The earthquake

Well I wasn't here for the earthquak… i was in calama so i didn`t feel anything, but when i was sleeping at my cousin`s house about 4 in in the morning , my celphone rang and i was really surprise because of the late hour, the number it scared me: it wasmy cousin's wife , my best friend,really thought something had happened to her, When I answered the pone she told me about the earthquak and i was very nervous so i started to call my family after five minutes my mon answered, and i felt relieved she was fine but a bit afraid, my sister was fine too. Then i called my dad, he was very relaxed, had nothing to fear, the only problem was the isolation by the system failure, so he couldn´t call my sister , he waited a long time before he could talk to my sister.

my first class of english

i am ivania , a student of anthropology , i´m 19 years old .
this blog is for learn inglish in diferents and better ways that classroom. i like the english because i think that " open doors" to the world and its easy to learn and understand. i would like to travel all over the world ...so I need english ! also i am very socialble so i would like to learn english for meet more people around the world. good luck every one !!
